Probably the gadget hit of the year, Asus have announced that the Asus Eee has shipped over 350,000 units and would have shifted a hell of a lot more if they had been a little easier to get hold of. We’ve been looking for a truly functional ultra-portable for a while, and it looks as if Asus have hit the nail on the head with this device, especially as the more recent models have a larger screen (10” rather that the 7”) and the flash memory expanded to a more useable 8GB.

Enthusiast groups such as the EeeUser forum are helping the Eee become a hobbyist dream, with details on how to change the OS to XP as an example of some of the changes you can make to the machine.
